Thoughts

Dear Dad, Thank you for the great memories, the fun, the adventures, even the times we didn’t see eye to eye, and got annoyed with each other, throughout it all, I knew you loved me, and hope you knew how much I loved you too. You showed me how to live life, what was important and what wasn’t, making the most of whatever life had in store, always finding a way to overcome obstacles, doing it ‘your way’ and never easily giving up. You always tried to do what you thought was right. Since we lost Mum I watched you struggle a bit more trying to stay independent, but you didn’t let it get you down, still doing things ‘you’re way’ even if everyone around you was holding their breath awaiting a catastrophe, which of course never happened. (You knew you could do it). I know you tried as much as you could to make life easier for me and Trevor in caring for you too. This last year, you came through so many health scares, you were amazing, but you couldn’t overcome the last battle, and now you’re together with Mum, so we must say goodbye. I can just imagine the greatest reunion, the ‘A’ team together again. Take my love with you to Mum, I still miss her, as I’ll miss you too. No more phone calls to say ‘goodnight, see you tomorrow’, eh!. Life without you both will never be as good and neither of you are ever far from my thoughts, always remembered with love. I know how much you enjoyed a gathering, so, as well as tomorrow, we’ll be thinking of you and Mum, at all our gatherings, and particularly Lisa and Brendan’s big day. You were both always there for us, and did whatever you could when we needed you. We owe you so much. For one last time, Dad, I’ll say ‘Goodnight, God Bless’, and until we meet again, Rest in Peace. You couldn’t have been a better Dad, I was proud to say you were mine. Sheila x
